How to use Tour Pay Calc

Follow these steps to build a full compensation estimate for your touring roster in just a few minutes.

1

Build your roster

Start by adding each person on your tour to the roster. Click "Add Person" in the dark Roster section at the top of the calculator.

For each person, fill in:

  • Name — e.g., "Alex" or "MD"
  • Role — e.g., "Guitarist", "FOH Engineer", "Tour Manager"
  • Show Rate — their base rate per show day in dollars

Tip: The Show Rate is the foundation for all other calculations. All other day types (travel days, double shows, etc.) are calculated as a multiplier of this base rate.

2

Select a person to view

Once you've added your team members, click the eye icon on any roster row to select that person. The calculator below will update to show their individual rates and running totals.

You can switch between team members at any time — each person's day counts are saved independently.

3

Enter day counts

With a person selected, use the + and buttons in each row to set the number of days for each category:

  • Show Days — standard shows, double shows, travel/show combos, production days
  • Travel Days — domestic and international
  • Weekly / Monthly — for longer-term deals

Tip: Each category automatically calculates the dollar amount using the rate multipliers. You can see the formula in the italicized column (e.g., "Show × 1.75" for a double show day).

4

Add additional fees

In the Additional Fees section, enter any expenses that apply:

  • Per Diem — enter a daily rate and the number of days
  • Ground Transportation — fixed amount per trip
  • Flights — enter a price per ticket and the number of tickets
  • Hotels — enter a nightly rate and the number of nights

Use the checkboxes on the right to include or exclude any line item from the total.

5

Read the Grand Total

The dark card at the bottom shows the Grand Total — the complete compensation cost across your entire roster.

It breaks down into:

  • Musician / Crew Fees — the sum of all day-rate calculations for everyone on the roster
  • Additional Fees — per diem, travel, and accommodation expenses

Tip: The roster card also shows a running total per person next to their name, so you can quickly see who is the largest cost on the tour.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data saved anywhere?

No. All data is stored only in your browser's memory and is cleared when you close or refresh the page. Nothing is sent to any server. For this reason, we recommend taking a screenshot or noting your totals before leaving the page.

Can I use this for any size tour?

Yes. You can add as many team members as you need. The calculator is designed to scale from a small 3-person touring band up to a full production crew.

Are these multipliers industry standard?

The multipliers reflect common practices in the live touring industry, but deal terms vary widely depending on the artist, genre, union agreements, and individual negotiations. Use these as a starting point — always confirm actual rates with your team and management.

What currency does the calculator use?

The calculator displays values in US dollars ($). You can use it for any currency by treating the numbers as your local currency — the math will be the same.

Can I export or print the results?

Currently, there is no built-in export feature. You can use your browser's print function (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P) to print or save the page as a PDF, which will capture all the current values on screen.
